A Weekend Away

We had some business down in Indianapolis to take care of this past weekend. While we could have made the trip in one day, it would have been more time in the car than any of us prefer! (Seriously, have you ever tried a dat trip of driving with two toddlers?!)

Having these travel packs for the boys is a life saver! You can find a variety of activities at Dollar Tree (and the bags) and a special toy and it kept them quite entertained for the drive down and back home! They only get these during long drives so the novelty doesn’t wear off.

Full disclosure, I don’t cloth diaper when we travel. (Photo of Declan entertaining himself while I packed. Never trust a quiet todder!)

We decided to turn it into a short family get away, and it was so needed! Winter can be so monotonous and even in this mild weather, the boys and I have been feeling the cabin fever.

A hotel with a pool, close to food, and something fun for the kids was easy to find in Indy!

I always pack a bunch of snacks for our road trips. If we’re using an AirBNB then we pack food to make our own meals in, but since it was a quick trip and we wanted the pool for the boys there was a lot of eating out this trip. (Probably not the best idea for our GI… There’s been a lot of kombucha, kimchi, and bone broth this week to make up for it.)

It was so much fun to spend some special time with the boys. Stirling has grown up so much this past year, and I adore seeing his eyes light up at new things or big challenges. He was all about swimming this trip. (Mind you, this is the same kid who screamed through 95% of his swim lessons a year ago.) Any challenge I gave him in the water, he tried until he was confident in doing it without coaxing. “I’m so brave, momma!” Yes, sweet son. You certainly are.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to go, make time next time you’re at the big city to visit The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. SO. MUCH. FUN! (There’s a good possibility Bryce and I had as much fun as the boy’s did!) It’s quite large and there are several levels, so plan on spending at least half a day there. Almost the entire museum is interactive, it’s super clean, and there were plenty of spots to take little breaks.

We will definitely be back!

  1. The boys are adorable! I agree, getting out and doing something new in the winter is a great idea. Definitely give you a break from the same dull activities.
