Choosing Not to Live in Fear

The dreaded stories of Coronavirus have flooded social media, television, and are the topic of many conversations over the last few weeks. You can hear anything from stories promoting mass hysteria to comedy on the sickness. From the fear of the actual illness or fear of not being able to find basic toiletries, many are suffering from anxiety over this.

I am not a medical professional, I’m simply a mom who tries to make the best and most informed decisions for the health of my family.

I’m not buying into the hysteria.

Why? Because fear and sex sell. Reporting has become so competitive on who can create the most shocking and stunning story that it rarely holds much value of factual reporting of the situation. I’ve checked into two resources today that give vastly different information.

While I don’t find myself running to the store to “stock up on all the things!” I do think it’s prudent to be mindful of the situation. During the winter months, I always carry certain things with us when we go to to stores and also use them when traveling (check out that blog here).

During the winter months, I always try to have extra essentials on hand. If one of us gets sick, we don’t have to worry about going out for groceries, extra tissues, or the like for a while.

It’s one thing to stay informed if Covid-19 has been diagnosed in your area (there are currently two cases in our state), but the inflamed stories on empty shelves or people fighting over toilet paper aren’t doing anyone a service.

Trying to not spread sickness probably is a good idea. (But that goes for any illness.)

Something that has always bothered me is when someone is sick, they know they’re sick, they take something OTC to feel better, and still show up for public functions. YOU. ARE. STILL. CONTAGIOUS. Stay home.

Similarly to any other illness, if you are feeling unwell. Stay home. Take care of yourself and don’t spread your sickness around.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, wash your hands well. Keep up on whole foods, teas, and supplements that nourish your body.

We are going to keep on doing what we usually do. Enjoying the season we’re in the best we can.

If you do find yourself falling into fear, remember David’s words in Psalm 34,

I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4
