DIY Essential Oil Reed Diffuser

My sister gave me this beautiful, handblown glass reed diffuser for Christmas. She knows I love DIY’s and hand crafted gifts always have a soft spot in my heart. I try to stay away from store-bought reed diffusers. They can contain synthetic fragrances that cause respiratory issues to pop up. The electric diffuser I use in our office needed to be relocated to another room, so this was perfect timing!

What You Need:

Glass container

Carrier oils (Almond oil was on hand, but you could also use any other light carrier oil. Heavy oils won’t pull up through the reeds as well)

Essential Oil (Personal preference, I chose Young Living’s Christmas Spirit)

Small funnel

Measuring Spoon

Rattan Reeds

What To Do:

  1. Using your small funnel, pour in your carrier oil. Specific amounts will depend on the size of your glass. For mine, I used 4 TBSP of almond oil.
  2. Add in your essential oils. This will also be based on your preference and the amount of carrier oil. It’s generally recommended 80:20 carrier oil to essential oil ration; however, I was quite happy with the amount of scent from 15 drops of essential oil.
  3. Cover your glass well and shake to mix the oils well.
  4. Add your reeds.
  5. Enjoy!
