That’s right.
For this recipe, you’ll have to dig out that bread maker you have stowed away in storage. It’s really not that daunting to use, I promise. We were gifted ours from my mother-in-law and while I was super nervous to try it out, I’m so glad we have it now.
With everything going on in our world (and country) right now, I have been limiting our trips out of the house. Our oldest son has a sandwich each and every morning for his first breakfast. Going without bread is simply not an option for us right now. Well, not an option for him, so that means for all of us. Morning attitudes set the mood for the rest of the day!
I know that freezing bread is an option, but I really don’t care for all the extra ingredients in store-bought bread. We decided to use this time at home to commit to mastering bread-making.
I do love our artisan bread recipe (check that out here!). It’s delicious and crusty, and perfect as a side dish for hearty soups. It just doesn’t make the cut as a sandwich bread (pun intended).
There are some simple recipes to bake in the oven, if you don’t have a bread maker. I will definitely share our favorite recipe in the coming days! Today, I’m focusing on our easiest way to bake bread. Toss in the ingredients, turn the machine on, and go about your day! In 3-4 hours you will have a delicious, fresh baked bread that will make store-bought bread pale in comparison.
This recipe is will make one loaf using a 1.5lb bread maker. It’s written using organic white flour, but you can substitute organic whole wheat. Honestly, with everything that’s going on right now, use what you have.

What you need:
- 1 cup of warm milk (or water) heated to 70-80F (21-26C)
- 2 1/4 tsp dry, active yeast
- 3 cups white or wheat flour
- 2 TBSP softened butter, ghee, or coconut oil
- 3 TBSP sugar or honey (I prefer honey if doing wheat flour, and sugar for white flour)
- 1 tsp pink Himalayan salt
- 1 large egg
- Bread maker (unfortunately, they do not make my bread maker anymore!)
Directions:
- Place all your ingredients in your bread maker in order according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Select the type of bread your making, the type of crust you prefer, and hit “start”!
- Once your bread is finished, make sure to enjoy the first slice with a hearty helping of butter while still warm!
Enjoy!
How are you doing with everything that has been going on? In what ways would you like to be more self sustainable? I would love to hear from you!
Oh, looks and sounds sup6wr yummy!!
It is!
We just made a very similar bread last night! And I remarked how much it reminded me of my father’s bread he used to make in the bread maker! It’s a great time to be resourceful! Thanks for sharing!
Definitely ❤
