You may have seen the videos floating around Instagram on Homestead Coffee.
There are several variations to choose from, but most of the recipes will lead you to a rich, filling, and nutritionally dense coffee to start your morning or as an afternoon pickup.
Essentially, you’re mixing a raw egg yolk, whole cream, sweetener, salt, and coffee together.
A few months ago, I finally decided to try this trend and was MORE than pleased with the results.
Let’s be honest, what’s not to love?
– Protein? Good!
– Healthy fats? Good!
– Minerals from Real Salt? Good!
– Minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and sucrose from maple syrup? Good!
– Caffiene? GOOD!
All wrapped up in a delicious, steaming mug of joy… – Did I mention, I really enjoy coffee?
Recipe
If you know me in real life, you probably know that I struggle immensely with following recipes. I’m more of a “toss in whatever sounds good at the time and run with it” type of person.
This makes recreating recipes that are a success virtually impossible. Part of creating this blog was to force me to document some of our favorite creations so I can reference them again in the future.
Just know, you can definitely take freedom with this recipe!
What You Need:
– Mason jar and lid OR frother
– Organic coffee (we use this whole bean coffee and grind fresh)
– 2 TBSP maple syrup
– 1 farm fresh chicken egg yolk or 3 fresh quail eggs
– 1/4 cup heavy cream (raw fresh cream is best, if you can find it)
– Pinch or two of Real Salt
Directions:
– Gently crack your eggs and discard the egg white (or save them for baking). If you’re using quail eggs, you do not have to discard egg whites.
– Add yolks to mason jar along with Real Salt, maple syrup, heavy cream, and a splash of vanilla. Put lid on your mason jar and shake vigorously. OR use a frother!
– Fill your mug 3/4 of the way with freshly brewed coffee, then add your cream and egg yolk mixture.
– Find a quiet place to enjoy your homestead coffee!
This coffee is one you definitely want to enjoy hot and fresh. I’ve found if I set it down and try to come back, it separates and just isn’t as pleasant to drink.
Enjoy! Let me know what creations you come up with!
