Several weeks ago, we brought home two Nigerian Dwarf goats to our homestead. Both were exposed to a buck (male, intact goat) and were supposed to have their babies within 3-4 weeks.
We’ve spent tireless hours trying to work with our girls to get them used to us and in the condition that we would like them to be in and had come to the conclusion that only one of our goats, Edda, was pregnant. She had been consistently very round, and had some stubborn baby hooves kicking along her sides as the days passed.
Oona, the girl who is very frightened of everything, has remained small. No kicks have been felt, and only a slight change in the size of her udder a week ago.
Every morning, as I’m doing chores, I sing them a good morning song and they both run to the fence begging for comfrey leaves. But today, Oona didn’t join in. I was a bit concerned, as she’s always willing to beg for treats but went about the chores for our other animals. (I usually save the girls for last so I can give them some extra lovin’.)
What did I find when I peeked into the shed?!
Two beautiful, healthy does with their momma, Oona! I quickly dialed my husbands cell phone as he was out weed eating the pigs electric fencing. He mistook my frantic call for panic, instead of sheer, kid-in-a-bounce-house excitement. (I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying!)
She has shown to be a very attentive momma, gently ushering them here and there while allowing them to nurse. Delivery appears to have gone smoothly, without any assistance.
She tolerated my presence (as I brought snacks for her, of course) but doesn’t take any nonsense from our barn cat, Kit.
The boys and I are in love already!
But my question is now…
If Oona had twins and she didn’t show…
How many will round little Edda have?!
Oh how exciting!! They look so cute. Glad to hear momma is taking care of them. Can’t wait to come see them. 😊
So, I am guessing next Wednesday, May 14th. And only 2 babies, just a lot bigger.
Ohhhh good guess!!
Very exciting! We had 2 does much like yours one hardly shows and the other looks like she could have a basketball team….lol
She will probably have2 but watch her just in case there is a 3rd there you may have to help with.
Good to know!! I’ll keep a close eye on her! Thank you❤❤❤
This is so exciting!! They are so cute!! I can’t wait to see them. I’m going to guess that Edda also has 2 kids! 😉
We’re super excited, too!! 🤔🤔🤔 When do you think she’ll have them?!
How adorable! I know it’s most likely for goats to have twins so I’m going to guess that Edda will have twins too! Would love to hear what you named the twins and what names you have in mind for Edda’s baby/babies!
You were right! Edda had twins this morning! We still haven’t named any of them, yet! I’m waiting to see what their little personalities are like!
