Mistfits Market: Month 18

We have been using Misfits Market for our family for a little over a year and a half. I often get asked what we think of it, and overall, we are definitely still loving it!

I know I have written about our experiences in the past, but I still get inquiries from friends and family. And I like to keep you posted on how our experience has been.

In the last 18 months, I’ve only had two “big” issues with the serviced. On occasion, we will receive produce that gets crushed or broken in transit. Generally, I can just use that in a meal that day and we don’t have to waste it. A few times things have gone downhill within a few days of receiving them, but not often.

Once around Christmas 2019, there was a massive influx of customers, and our box was delayed by 3 or 4 days. Thankfully, the boxes are insulated very well and nothing was frozen or damaged in transit. The second hiccup we’ve had was a box coming in late again, but the produce was very damaged (as was the box). Which leads me to believe it was the delivery service at fault, not Misfits.

Every now and then we do receive an obscene amount of one specific produce. (ex. garlic, celery, ginger, oranges) Or I order extra of something because the boys have really been enjoying it, and suddenly they don’t even want to look at it anymore!

I’ve been finding different ways to use and preserve these as they come to prevent US from wasting them. Dicing and freezing, dehydrating, making pesto and seasoning salts, etc.

What is Misfits Market?

If you aren’t familiar with the service, Misfits Market provides your family with organic, fresh produce delivered right to your door. Per the namesake, the fruit and vegetables may not fit your ideal grocery store produce. They go around to farmers who would normally have to toss imperfect food (for slight bruising, discoloration, mis-shapened, or considered too small or too large to be sold in a grocery store.

You benefit from fresh, organic produce at a bargain, the farmers still make a profit for their food, and overall, food waste is reduced.

Can I Pick What’s in My Box?

Sort of.

Each week there is a variety of fruit and vegetables available to pick from. There are rare occasions that even if you’ve chosen an item, it is replaced with something else. If the produce they have to choose from that week is damaged or has gone bad, that would be a reason why something was replaced.

On top of what generally comes in your box, you can also shop for add on items such as:

  • Additional produce
  • Beverages
  • Household items
  • Pantry items

How Big are the Boxes?

They currently offer two different sizes.

The Mischief

The Mischief box is their smaller option with 12 types of produce (and 1-2 portions per produce). This is $22 for the base box with shipping (which varies by state).

The Madness

The Madness is the larger option with 14 types of produce (and 2-4 portions per produce). This box is $35 for the base box with shipping.

Extra Details

What I love with this subscription service is the flexibility with the delivery schedule. You can postpone boxes or cancel at any time. We generally use the “skip a box” feature during the summer months when we are consuming most of our produce from our own land.

There’s no fee to cancel and you don’t commit to a specific timeframe for a membership when you sign up.

How Can You Sign Up?

Misfits is currently offering $10 off your first box when you use my referral link! Their deals change all the time, so make sure to check in and see what they are currently offering! *My family will also benefit with $10 off a future box of our own when you sign up through our link! So we thank you!*
